In a 21st Century economy were E-Commerce and B2B dominate the landscape of trade Doug Dicker of Africa Art is sophisticated and unique operating trade as a small business supply chain exporter while maintaining an Art Gallery in his native Australia. Faced with challenges to navigate and forge relationships with microenterprise development eager to respond to the pressing needs of the local economy while trying to foster foreign investment; Doug has developed a reputation second to none with his honesty, patience, and loyalty in negotiating the fair trade for all parties concerned. This unique and sophisticated business model has a more important purpose partnering with a local church to build and support a “School & Orphanage Project”. This movement is helping fuel the micro financial need which seems to offer a way to put more power and dignity into the hands of the people of Zimbabwe, investing in their dreams and ideas rather than just offering traditional charity. We cannot hide from the problem of poverty. This growing movement of small local supply chain businesses has helped to fuel the local economy and with businessmen such as Doug Dicker has challenged our consciousness with an honest workable partnership solution. I am proud to call him my partner but more to the point, I am proud to call Doug my Friend!!!

In the all business and personal dealings with us over the past several years we have found Doug Dicker (Masvingo) to be diligent, honest and courteous and always willing to go the extra mile to ensure our business relations are satisfactory. There is no doubt the quality of his range maintains its usual exceptional standards that we have come to expect. The after sales service and support is unusually attentive and informative. We therefore have no hesitation in recommending the Masvingo business to any potential new clients.

Florida USA

I originally contacted Doug after I decided to include African sculptures in the fair trade gallery I was opening in Naples, Florida, USA. I did a considerable amount of research as to the types and opportunities to procure African works of art, and I was most impressed by the way Mr. Dicker not only presented his artists and their sculptures, but also by his outreach to the Zimbabwean people. I have read numerous tales of Doug’s good doings for his carvers and their families, primarily by providing medical support when individuals become ill. Not all the stories have happy endings, but after all it is Zimbabwe, and the medical infrastructure and local politics are not conducive to an efficient delivery of care.

After many emails that contained procedures and recommendations for obtaining Shona sculptures from his supply, I selected my first order of two crates, or approximately four cubic meters. Doug provided me with multiple pictures of each sculpture and descriptions of the stones that were used to create the pieces. He took the time to carefully pack the sculptures into two large handmade wooden crates to be transported from Harare, Zimbabwe to Durban, South Africa where they were containerized and loaded on a ship to cross the Atlantic and on to Newark, New Jersey, USA and on to me in Florida.

After receipt of the sculptures Doug provided me with counsel on pricing, the display of the sculptures and the care and maintenance of the stone art. Doug even went so far as to send me a can of the preferred African polish to ensure the sculptures always shine brilliantly. I would have to say that Doug Dicker and Masvingo Sculptures are “brilliant” as well! I would recommend Masvingo Sculptures to anyone who is interested in the fine Shona sculptures from Zimbabwe.

I am writing to acknowledge the high quality service provided by Doug and the beautiful sculptures pieces. Few months ago we purchased Stone sculptures for Sanaa Afrika Gallery. Through the process Doug was very efficient in arranging smooth delivery of these delicate pieces to our gallery. The items were well packed and none of the items were broken. I will be purchasing again sculptures from your company.

I have just had my second shipment of sculptures arrive from Doug Dickers business in Zimbabwe. As with the first shipment, the process went very smoothly, and the quality of the sculptures is great. I have no hesitation in recommending Doug Dicker, he has always been a man of his word.

South Africa

We (my wife Carmy and I) would just like to give you some insight about the business Doug is running in Zimbabwe. From the first e-mail we have send to Doug at Masvingo African Art to find out more about the shona sculptures, until the first shipment was delivered to us, we only received the best service you can imagine (and we are not saying this because we are from South Africa and used to well . . . not the best of service). We can assure you that Doug will always go out of his way to provide the best quality sculptures available in Zimbabwe at the best price you will find anywhere, accompanied with only top service. So if you are thinking of going into the Shona Art business, Doug is definitely your guy!

Canada/Mexico

We have galleries in Canada and Mexico so we are always interested in what other people are doing. Where are you based? Do you have an existing gallery? Have your purchased Shona stone sculptures before? But, with regard to Doug, we have been dealing with him for a long time. He is an excellent supplier. He is upfront and honest and buys very ethically. He has an excellent “eye” and selects really good pieces. You can’t go wrong using his services. We would highly recommend him.

I have worked with Doug for 3 years and he has been professional in all aspects of our business. He is reliable, trustworthy, ethical and very hard working. Very simply he delivers what he says he will do. I look forward to continuing our relationship.

I’m extremely happy with your service! Especially with how quickly you have consistently responded to all of my emails, which has made things so much easier for me! Also i really appreciate the time you and Deb took to show me around and answer all my questions when i visited Harare last year, it was great to meet you both as well as some of the carvers, and even though i was only there for a couple of days i felt the time spent there was really beneficial! The sculptures were delivered to me last week and are amazing, none are damaged, i can’t wait to get them out properly this weekend for the exhibition! Also thanks for tracking down the carvers and sending me their bios, one of the most consistent compliments i have had from people about my website is that they like being able to read about the person who created the sculpture.

You have found the best buyer for Shona Stone Sculptures. He is not only the best at what he does, but he is honest reliable, and a very nice man. Also……..he knows most of the artist’s personally and has a great relationship with them. I know it’s hard to send money to another country without knowing that person (I had to do it my first time too.) You can trust him 100%. I know three other Shona galleries in Canada that deals with Doug as well. This is how I found him thru word of mouth. I won’t deal with anyone else except Doug.

I am now on my third container, completely inexperienced in this type of business but.. I can’t imagine for myself doing it any other way than through someone like Doug. Originally I had planned to do most of the buying ect myself along with a local partner. This would have been very problematic given the logistical and economic chaos experienced in the country right now. I lived in Zimbabwe for 3 years and take it for granted that things often go sideways but with Doug, it is always a pleasure to deal with him. They are very efficient, especially given the circumstances they have to deal with daily and the product they send me is of high quality. Part of me hates to encourage you as I would love to have them all to myself but… they deserve the praise. Good luck with your business.
